Riot grrrl

Riot grrrl è il nome di un genere tematico relativo al punk. Più precisamente una particolare forma di hardcore punk – e movimento sociale emerso nei primi anni ’90 dalla scena indie rock e conosciuto soprattutto per le sue forti posizioni di femminismo militante e attivismo politico.

Molti testi delle canzoni riot grrrl – ma non tutti – si riferiscono ad argomenti quali: stupro, abusi domestici, sessualità (lesbismo incluso), sessismo, predominio maschile sopra la gerarchia sociale, potere alle donne e altri argomenti caratterizzati da un punto di vista radicale e combattivo.

La quasi totalità dei gruppi riot-grrrl (che letteralmente significa “ragazze in rivolta”) sono o erano formati da una lineup completamente al femminile il cui stile musicale, aggressivo e selvaggio, consisteva spesso in violente raffiche di rumore volutamente dilettantesche accompagnate da un solo, rudimentale senso della melodia o tecnica strumentale.

civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow
the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete
automation and destroy the male sex.

It is now technically possible to reproduce without the aid of males
(or, for that matter, females) and to produce only females. We must
begin immediately to do so. Retaining the male has not even the
dubious purpose of reproduction. The male is a biological accident:

incomplete female, a walking abortion, aborted at the gene stage. To
be male is to be deficient, emotionally limited; maleness is a
